2026 Comrade of the Year

Yarrow Willman-Cole has spent her career fighting for a simple, radical idea: no one should have to choose between their job and caring for the people they love.

Yarrow's path to this moment runs through tenant organizing, Occupy Newark, Rutgers Center for Women and Work, and the coalitions she's helped build along the way. For seven years at New Jersey Citizen Action, she has served as their Workplace Justice Program Director, fighting for paid sick days and paid family leave — winning real protections for working families across the state.

But Yarrow knows this fight personally. As a working mother of two, she's faced the impossible choices too many parents face — and it fuels her organizing.

With Yarrow, NJ Communities United and NJ Citizen Action have launched the Child Care For All NJ organizing table, bringing parents, providers, and advocates together to build a real care economy — one where the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, where childcare workers are valued, and where working families have access to free childcare.

AT NJ COMMUNITIES UNITED, WE ORGANIZE IN SOLIDARITY WITH OUR PARTNERS — TO BUILD THE POWER THAT NO ONE OF US COULD BUILD ALONE.
